Match Report

So, despite a call from one dejected member due to the predicted heavy rain forecast to cancel and rearrange, the hardcore rest still wanted to play, so we all headed off to Chichester in the sunshine in the hope that the forecast would be typically wrong to play our eighth outing of the year that was effectively added to the calendar for those that wouldn’t be going on the International trip a week later (and as a warm up for the those that were going) and to compete for the inaugural Cox&Co Cup. Thank you all for your support and attendance. Hardcore!

Unfortunately, however, the forecasted rain came bang on time, ironically exactly as we tee’d off!. It did let up on what seemed like every other hole, so frustratingly the waterproofs were on/off/on/off/on/off (you get the picture) until I think most decided that they were by now wet enough not to care! Weather condition aside, the course was actually in a good condition and the greens were also decent, but I think the intermittent heavy rains played its part in making it generally tough for most with only a handful scoring above 30pts. It will definitely be nice to come back next year and play this beautiful and challenging course in better conditions.

So on to the results. The winner of the superb shiny new Cox&Co Cup (appropriately a replica of the Ryder Cup) was John Stevens with 35pts, just pipping Runner Up Andy Jones with 34pts, beating Charlie Wycherley in 3rd Place on count back also with 34pts. Well played and well done to you all considering the treacherous conditions.

Nearest the Pins also went John Stevens on the 6th and…..yes you’ve guessed it…..John Stevens on the 15th (for the clean sweep!!)  Well done John. I don’t think that has ever been done before. I thought the saying was everyone deserves their day in the sun……but if rain works for you!

Oh, and winner of our new ‘Duffer of the Day’ award and for the second consecutive meet was Peter Gossage although only just pipping Adrian Curtis on count back and a handful of others by one point! So no need to feel bad Peter. I know you had to leave before the presentation, but don’t worry we will forward it on to you via Gordon, so no escaping this prestigious trophy.

This now sees another 7 different winners this year and the trophies/prizes being spread amongst our members which is brilliant to see.

The food was fabulous once again, and all in all, despite the bloody rain, it was another fantastic day out.

Thanks, as always, to all of you for your support and enthusiasm. It’s really appreciated
