Match Report
We had another fantastic turnout at Dale Hill, with 32 of us originally set to play in our third outing of the year. The weather wasn’t quite what the long-range forecast had promised—chilly and overcast on arrival—but it soon cleared, and by 1pm, we were enjoying sunshine and warmth on the back 9.
We were delighted to welcome another new member, Dave Winsor, who joined us as Glenn’s guest. Dave was so impressed with the quality of golf and company (and no doubt the new Foresters golf kit!) that he signed up on the spot. Great to have you on board, Dave—welcome! That brings us to six new members already this year—thank you all for your continued support of our wonderful Society.
Unfortunately, four players had to withdraw, so 28 of us took to the course (still a great turnout). Once again, many proudly wore our new Foresters-branded attire. More orders were taken at breakfast, and for those who haven’t yet ordered, I’ve attached the brochure again for ease. Just drop me an email with your sizes and I’ll do my best to have your kit ready for Chartham Park.
Now, onto the golf... The famous 'Woosnam' course didn’t quite live up to expectations—patchy conditions off the fairways and heavily sanded greens. That said, the wide-open fairways, light rough, and slower greens definitely suited some—most notably, yours truly! With unusually consistent driving, solid iron play, and no more than 1–2 putts per hole, I somehow managed to notch up six pars.
So yes... brace yourselves... the winner of the Sussex Mortgage Services Trophy was—indeed—me, with a ridiculous 46 points. Don’t worry, I promise not to play like that again for at least another three years! (Honestly, I could’ve given Rory a run for his money on Thursday...) and I've been cut five points for my sins.
Runner-up was Phil Simpson with an excellent 43 points (and a healthy cut to go with it), and 3rd place went to Chris Turner with 38 points.
Nearest the Pins: 5th – Mark Simpson and 11th – Lee Shergold.
Well done everyone. It’s been great to see different winners and NTPs at each meeting so far—let’s hope that trend continues so we can spread the prizes.
The food was amazing again, and all in all, it was another brilliant day out.
Thanks, as always, for your attendance, support and enthusiasm.
