Match Report

There were originally 24 of us signed up for the rearranged meeting at Haywards Heath last Wednesday, following our unfortunate washout two weeks earlier. However, with the weather forecast this time predicting extreme temperatures of 38°C+, we unfortunately but understandably lost five players on the day.

 The remaining 19 of us donned our hats, applied plenty of sun cream, put up our umbrellas, wrapped wet towels around our necks, and headed out to compete for the W.E. Clarke & Son Cup. A huge thank you, as always, to everyone who turned up and played in such extreme conditions. Your continued commitment and support are what make the Society so special and make all the organising worthwhile. It is always very much appreciated, thank you.

 It was the first time that the Society had visited Haywards Heath (so I'm told, or at least for a very long time!), and the feedback I have received from many of you is that, although the conditions were extremely challenging due to the heat, the course featured some very enjoyable and memorable holes. The general consensus was that a return visit next year would be very welcome — hopefully in rather more normal weather conditions!

 The heat was so extreme that playing conditions became increasingly uncomfortable as the day progressed and, understandably, we unfortunately saw seven players retire after nine holes. That left just 12 of us hardy souls to battle on and complete the full round!

 There were 3 players that didn’t find it that tough as the rest of us and managed to score decent scores. The well-deserved Winner of the W.E. Clarke & Son Cup with 35pts was last months runner up Paul Gasson…well done cuz!. Runner Up and pipped by one point was Liam Sheehan with 34pts, and in 3rd Place was Lee Shergold with 32pts. Very well played and deserved. Well done to all of you.   

 Nearest the Pins both went to John Stevens (not for the first time!) on the 7th and 17th. Well done John.
