Match Report
After a 14yr hiatus (excluding the disappointing turn out in 2024!) we headed back to the beautiful albeit challenging Lamberhurst golf course. Unfortunately, we had 6 late withdrawals due to personal injuries and illnesses (I hope you have all recovered and are fit and ready for our next match) however we still had a good turn out which saw 22 of us enjoy the amazing holes and fairways. Thanks to everyone that turned up for your continued commitment and support which makes for a great day for everyone. Always appreciated. Thank you all.
We were competing for the coveted Sussex Mortgage Services Cup . The weather was dry, warm and the fairways and greens in great condition, which made for some good golf, although we saw only 10 players scoring 30pts or more and only 3 over 35!….we also saw at least one golfer have a truly memorable day! .
I personally witnessed 10 or more points left on the course with missed putts from within 1-2 feet, which proves the ‘no gimme’ rule is reducing the common high scoring of 40+pts!! and keeps the scoring closer and certainly fairer/more consistent.
So, on to the results. The well-deserved Winner of the Sussex Mortgage Services Cup with a very impressive 39pts was Lee Shergold…well done Lee. We saw two players in the ‘Top 3’ for the second month in succession as Runner Up was Stan Craig with 36pts, and in 3rd Place was Andy Frost with 35pts. Well played and well done to you all. Perhaps Stan and Frosty will let someone else have a go at Horsham! Lol.
Nearest the Pins went to Richard Levett on the 7th with the society’s first HOLE in ONE!! and Richard Brooks on the 17th. Well done to you both and thank you Richard for the drinks!!
Finally, the recipient of our now prestigious and coveted ‘Duffer of the Day’ award was Andy Williamson. Not quite the ‘Winners’ trophies you have become used to Andy, but still a trophy!
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day and everyone said they would love to come back again next year so I have already made a provisional booking for May/June next year when we will hopefully get an even bigger turn out for this brilliant but challenging course.
Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm. Much appreciated as always.
