Match Report
After a very wet start to the year — which understandably deterred some of our usual participants — and with three late withdrawals due to personal and illness reasons, we still had a resilient group of 20 turn out at Westerham to kick off the season and support our new Captain, Graham Boniface, and new President, Jimmy Gasson.
Thankfully, the weather was kind to us on the day. Although trolleys were banned, buggies were permitted thanks to the cart paths around the course, so after some heavy negotiation for reduced buggy price — and with three of us opting to carry — it allowed us to shake off the cobwebs and get back out on the course, albeit with challenging fairway and green conditions.
While the conditions proved difficult for everyone, and with the continued (now customary!) no-gimme rule in place, over half the field still managed to score 30 points or more. Only three players exceeded 35 points, highlighting how tough the course was playing — but it still made for a thoroughly enjoyable day.
So, on to the results. The well-deserved Winner of the ‘Secretary's Shield’ with a very impressive 39pts was our new Captain, Graham Boniface…well done Capo!. Runner Up was Andy Jones with 37pts, and in 3rd Place was Charlie Whycherley with 35pts.
Nearest the Pins went to Alan Meisner on the 8th and fittingly our new President Jimmy Gasson on the signature 11th.
Well played and well done to you all.
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day as always.
Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm. Its always very much appreciated.
Paul Hon. Secretary
